BLACKBURN, England (AP) — American midfielder Jermaine Jones has joined English Premier League club Blackburn on a six-month loan deal from Schalke.

The 29-year-old Jones has fallen out of favor at the Bundesliga club, whose coach Felix Magath banished the player to the reserve team in November.

Blackburn manager Steve Kean says Jones “is a fantastic signing for us. … He’s got a fantastic engine, he can go box to box, he’s a genuine all-round midfielder.”

The Frankfurt-born Jones made his debut for the U.S. in October having played regularly for Germany at youth level. He is Blackburn’s second signing in the January transfer window, after Paraguay striker Roque Santa Cruz, and could debut against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
