A 30-year-old woman was fatally injured Wednesday when she was hit by a car on Interstate 5 northbound, just north of the I-5 Bridge.

Shannon R. Brink, 30, of Vancouver was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified by the Washington State Patrol in a press release issued shortly after midnight.

Firefighters, state troopers and paramedics rushed to the scene at 6:50 p.m. and quickly blocked the left and center lanes where Brink was found. Paramedics performed advanced life support techniques on her for a long time, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, said Capt. Scott Willis, a spokesman with the Vancouver Fire Department.

Brink was crossing the road when she was struck by a 2006 Hyundai Elantra, according to the press release.

The driver, Nicolai A. Underland, 35, of Vancouver, of the car that hit Brink stopped and provided information to WSP troopers. Underland was not cited.

The crash, according to the state patrol, was caused by Brink’s crossing a “limited access highway.”
