Friday, January 21, 2011
Clark County — SELF, a collaborative Clark County program that helps parents get their children ready for kindergarten, has won a $20,500 grant from Thrive by Five, a statewide nonprofit.
SELF stands for Support for Early Learning and Families. It was formed in 2001 and now represents 23 partner agencies, from school districts to and the Vancouver Housing Authority to private nonprofits like the YWCA and the ARC of Clark County. Thrive by Five is a public-private partnership aimed at bolstering birth-to-age 5 education. Visit http://www.thrivebyfivewa.org to learn more.
SELF will use the $20,500 grant to implement a program called Love, Talk, Play that teaches parents about healthy growth and development in young children. A specific focus in Clark County is Spanish-speaking families.
“We are honored to receive this grant and are excited to be able to reach and impact more young families in Clark County,” said Debbie Ham, Executive Director of SELF.
