Elon defeats Georgia Southern 84-62

ELON, N.C. (AP) — Drew Spradlin scored 21 points and Elon surpassed last season’s win total with an 84-62 rout of Georgia Southern on Saturday night.

Spradlin made 7 of 14 field goal attempts and is shooting 48 percent from the field in Southern Conference games this season. Elon made 28 of 68 (41.2 percent) from the field.

Eleven players scored for the Phoenix (10-10, 4-5), and Lucas Troutman was the only other player in double figurers with 17.

Elon led 40-28 at halftime but the Eagles trimmed the lead to 43-36 with 17:44 left. Elon pulled away with a 25-4 run for a 68-40 lead after a Troutman layup with 8:47 remaining in the game.

The Phoenix converted 24 Eagles’ turnovers into 33 points. Chris Long had five of Elon’s 10 steals.

Jelani Hewitt scored 18 points and Ben Drayton chipped in 14 for the Eagles (4-17, 0-8), who have lost eight in a row and 13 straight on the road.
