Machata’s German sled wins 4-man bob; Holcomb 6th

WINTERBERG, Germany (AP) — A four-man bobsled team from Germany has won a World Cup race, giving Manuel Machata his first European championship title.

Olympic champion Steven Holcomb in USA 1 was sixth Sunday, a half second behind.

The Germany 1 crew of Machata, Richard Adjei, Andreas Bredau and Florian Becke had the fastest second run for a total time of 1 minute, 50.15 seconds. Germany’s Thomas Florschuetz and Russia’s Alexsandr Zubkov tied for second, 0.13 seconds behind.

Russia 2, piloted by Alexander Kasjanov, was fourth ahead of Latvia’s Edgars Maskalans.

The World Cup meet in Winterberg, Germany, also counts as the European Championships.
