BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Marta finally has a new team.

The expansion Western New York Flash announced Tuesday night they had acquired the five-time FIFA’s women’s player of the year. The 24-year-old Brazilian forward helped FC Gold Pride win the Women’s Professional Soccer League title but the club folded in November.

Flash coach Aaran Lines says Marta is “an extremely exciting player” and the team is excited for her arrival.

Marta led the WPS in scoring for a second straight season and had a goal and two assists in FC Gold Pride’s 4-0 victory over the Philadelphia Independence in the WPS championship.

The Flash says they have “taken over” Marta’s third year of her contract with FC Gold Pride. The new team plays its first game at Boston on April 17.
