Massachusetts beats St. Bonaventure 78-69

OLEAN, N.Y. (AP) — Anthony Gurley scored 28 points and Massachusetts shot 52.7 percent en route to a 78-69 win over St. Bonaventure on Wednesday night.

The Minutemen (12-7, 4-2 Atlantic 10 Conference) led 45-43 with 14:36 left to play and extended their lead to 57-45 with 11:31 to go. UMass led by at least seven the rest of the way.

UMass went 29 for 55 from the field and outscored the Bonnies 46-22 in the paint.

Javorn Farrell scored 16 points for the Minutemen, who fell behind after a 3-pointer from Demitrius Conger in the game’s first 15 seconds but never trailed again.

UMass posted a 22-2 edge in points inside during the first half and entered the break with a 39-31 lead.

Marquise Simmons led St. Bonaventure (10-9, 2-4) with a career-high 14 points. Michael Davenport added 12 and Andrew Nicholson 11. The Bonnies went 21 of 59 from the floor (35.6 percent).
