The Citadel defeats Davidson 85-75

DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) — Cameron Wells scored 28 points to lead The Citadel over Davidson 85-75 on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs (9-13, 5-5 Southern Conference) shot 70.4 percent (19 of 27), while holding the Wildcats to 9-of-31 shooting (29 percent) in the first half to take a 46-24 lead at the break.

The Citadel led 17-14 before scoring nine straight, and led by at least 10 for most of the rest of the game. Clint Mann’s dunk brought Davidson (8-12, 2-7) within 9, 68-77, with 1:05 to go. The Citadel then went 8 of 8 from the free-throw line the rest of the way to win its fourth straight.

Wells scored 18 points in the second half and finished shooting 9 of 10 from the free-throw line. The Bulldogs were 22 of 24 from the line in the game (91.7 percent).

Mike Groselle added 13 points for The Citadel.

Davidson was led by Nik Cochran with 21 points.
