LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Former Kentucky standout and NBA veteran Tony Delk has been hired as an assistant basketball coach at New Mexico State.

Head basketball coach Marvin Menzies announced the hiring Saturday.

Delk spent the last two seasons as assistant director of basketball operations at Kentucky under coach John Calipari.

As a player at Kentucky, Delk was a second-team AP All-American after leading the Wildcats to the 1996 NCAA National Championship. He spent 10 years in the NBA in stints with Golden State, Sacramento, Phoenix, Boston, Dallas, Atlanta and Detroit.

Menzie says the move will give the Aggies program instant credibility with players and recruits.

Calipari says he is proud to see Delk and other former players move up the ladder.
