SEATTLE (AP) — The Port of Seattle says it expects a drop in the number of cruises leaving Seattle for Alaska in 2011.

About 62,350 fewer cruise goers are expected this year than in 2010.

The Seattle Times says the decline translates to about a $53 million drop in income for the city of Seattle. The city brings in about $1.9 million for each Seattle-based cruise when vessels stock up on supplies and passengers bound for Alaska rent hotel rooms, eat and shop in Seattle.

A record 223 cruises took off from Seattle last year. This year, 195 cruises are scheduled to depart. The drop is partly due to Princess Cruises and the Holland America Line each moving one ship to Europe.
