Red Wings searching for backup goaltender

DETROIT (AP) — Red Wings general manager Ken Holland expects to sign or acquire a backup goaltender this week.

Holland might choose to re-sign Chris Osgood, bring back Ty Conklin or trade for someone to spell Jimmy Howard.

Holland says the market is pretty picked over, adding he’s comfortable with retaining Osgood if he has to settle for him.

The 38-year-old Osgood has said he wants to play another season in Detroit, hinting that he would retire to spend time with his three children rather than find a new NHL home if he’s not welcomed back by the Red Wings.

Osgood has won 401 games, mostly with Detroit, but was healthy enough to play in just 11 games last season.
