LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Three cities have made the final shortlist to host the world championships in 2015 or 2017 — Guadalajara, Mexico; Hong Kong; and Kazan, Russia.

Swimming’s governing body will choose the 2015 host July 15 before the world championships in Shanghai. FINA says the 2017 venue also will be selected “if two bids are judged capable of hosting.”

China originally entered Guangzhou in the 2015 and 2017 contests. Montreal also dropped out of the 2017 contest.

The biennial event will be hosted by Barcelona, Spain, in 2013.
