INVERNESS, Scotland (AP) — Phil Mickelson is banking on a change in strategy on the greens to break his tournament drought in Britain over the next two weeks.
The American left-hander hasn’t finished in the top 10 in the British Open since 2004. He’s using this week’s Scottish Open, on a links course at Castle Stuart, as preparation for the year’s third major.
Mickelson says his failure to master British greens is the root of the problem.
The 41-year-old Mickelson says he’ll “putt with less break and more aggressively and see if that doesn’t combat some of the issues that I’ve had here.”
Mickelson says winning in Britain will help him become a more “complete player.”
