MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) — Two people in a car were killed in a collision with a truck just before midnight Wednesday on Highway 18 near Maple Valley.

The Washington State Patrol says the driver of the car had stopped to help a disabled pickup truck and had picked up a woman passenger.

Trooper Julie Startup says the car was making a U-turn on the highway when it was hit by a semi-truck.

KING-TV reports the driver of the car died at the scene and the woman died at a hospital.

The semi-truck driver was not injured. He told KIRO-TV he didn’t have time to stop.
