BEND, Ore. (AP) — The Deschutes County district attorney has told a judge that he isn’t liable for First Amendment and free-speech violations alleged by three of his former deputies whom he fired in January.
The three former deputy district attorneys sued in April, alleging wrongful firing, sex discrimination and violations of labor law and First Amendment rights.
The Bend Bulletin reports that Deschutes County district attorney Patrick Flaherty is seeking to have elements of the suit narrowed.
Flaherty, who took office this year, responded to the suit on Wednesday in federal court by saying he was acting within his duties as a district attorney.
