PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has been selected to the National League All-Star team after Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun pulled out because of a lingering strain in his left calf.

McCutchen was selected to the squad by NL manager Bruce Bochy on Saturday. Braun was the NL’s top vote-getter for Tuesday’s game in Phoenix.

This will be the 24-year-old McCutchen’s first All-Star appearance in his third major league season. He was hitting .292 with 13 homers, 49 RBIs, 52 runs and 15 stolen bases entering Saturday.

McCutchen joins right-hander Joel Hanrahan in representing Pittsburgh.
