NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — World-record holder David Rudisha comfortably won the 800-meter race at the Kenyan track and field championships on Saturday to qualify for the world championships.

Rudisha won in 1 minute 43.76 seconds, followed by Jackson Kivuva in 1:44.40.

Rudisha said he has almost completely recovered from a left foot injury that has bothered him since the beginning of May and has prevented him from taking part in several races this season.

Rudisha’s coach Colm O’Connell said the runner did not push himself hard in the race to reduce the risk of aggravating the injury before the worlds, which are being held Aug. 27-Sept. 4 in Daegu, South Korea.
