Letter: Ring in Independence Day, not days

The Columbian
Published: July 16, 2011, 12:00am

Having lived in Vancouver for many years, I can testify there are more than just a few hours of joyous noise on the anniversary of our nation’s birth. We somehow manage to ring in New Year’s Day with an eruption of joyous bedlam when Jan. 1 finally arrives, not an hour sooner. It would be stupid and self-indulgent to commence this ritual, oh, say, a week in advance.
