Ask the gardening expert

The Columbian
Published: July 21, 2011, 12:00am

I have been trying to find the master gardeners, and I cannot find them in the phonebook. I’m not really sure what they do, but I thought I’d ask them for help in my yard. I have a lot of garden work and need someone to do it. Can they help?

I’m afraid not. We are educators. We do not do garden work for the public. The Master Gardener program is a part of Washington State University. You might find the help you need under landscapers in the phonebook.

Our office is with the Clark County WSU Extension Service at the Center for Agriculture, Science and Environmental Education in Brush Prairie. We offer demonstrations; presentations to clubs; and work with youth, food banks, civic groups and neighborhood associations.

We attend community events such as the annual Home and Idea Fair in spring, the Vancouver Farmers Market and the Clark County Fair. We also present public classes and demonstration at CASEE.

Each year in May, we host a plant sale during Mother’s Day weekend.

For dates and times of these events, call 360-397-6060, ext. 7725 or email MGanswerclinic@clark.wa.gov

Keep an eye on the Columbian garden calendar for dates and locales.

Celeste Lindsay is a WSU master gardener. Send questions to mslindsay8@gmail.com.
