SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Uncle Mo has completed his first workout since missing the Kentucky Derby with a liver ailment, breezing three furlongs at Saratoga Race Course with owner Mike Repole and trainer Todd Pletcher looking on.

Pletcher called Friday’s workout “perfect,” and Repole said “it’s nice to see him out there.”

Uncle Mo was found to have a liver disorder after finishing third in the Wood Memorial in April. The 2-year-old champion missed the Kentucky Derby and the rest of the Triple Crown races while recuperating at WinStar Farm in Kentucky.

If all goes well, Uncle Mo could return to the races for the King’s Bishop at Saratoga on Aug. 27.

Uncle Mo covered three furlongs in 38.40 seconds with exercise rider Patti Krotenko aboard.
