BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A Canadian sports doctor’s assistant faces sentencing in Buffalo for lying to border agents about medical supplies she was bringing into the U.S. for her employer.

A federal judge could sentence Mary Anne Catalano to up to a year in prison Monday, but prosecutors have indicated they’ll seek only probation.

In court filings, the U.S. attorney’s office says that Catalano initially lied when she was stopped at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo in 2009 but later told the truth. The information she provided led to her employer, Dr. Anthony Galea (GALE’-ee-uh), being convicted for bringing unapproved drugs into the United States to treat professional athletes.

Galea’s patients included professional baseball and football players, but prosecutors have not disclosed the names of athletes who may have gotten banned treatments.
