UPDATE: TRUCK CRASH CLOSES EASTBOUND INTERSTATE 84 EAST OF MULTNOMAH FALLS)

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers, with assistance of Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office deputies, are continuing the investigation into a commercial tanker truck and semi-trailer tanker rollover crash that closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 about two miles east of Multnomah Falls. ODOT, fire and a hazardous materials response team are on scene assessing the damage, coordinating clean up efforts and working to re-open the eastbound lanes.
Updated information indicates on July 24, 2011 at approximately 5:00 p.m. a tanker truck pulling a semi-tanker containing an estimated total of 3,000 gallons of unleaded gasonline was traveling eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 34. The truck traveled off the right shoulder and collided into a guardrail, damaging about 500 feet of railing as the truck and trailer rolled onto their right side. The truck came to rest blocking the eastbound lanes and the trailer came to rest overturned on the other side of the railing.
The truck’s driver, JOHN T. ROLLINS JR, age 31, from Portland, was transported by AMR ambulance to Providence Portland Medical Center for a precautionary examination. His injuries are believed to be minor. ROLLINS is a driver for Western Hyway Oil out of Portland, Oregon.
The semi-tanker contained about 1,500 gallons of fuel. A fire department official reported it was leaking about a gallon a minute and pumping equipment was arriving to pump out the remaining fuel. The truck’s tanker also contained about 1,500 gallons of fuel and had a minor leak that was being controlled. HazMat 03 Gresham-Multnomah County team responded to the scene.
