PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed pitcher Trevor Bauer, the third overall pick in this year’s draft, to a major league contract.
Bauer went 13-2 with a 1.25 ERA at UCLA last season, with an NCAA-best 203 strikeouts in 16 starts. Bauer won the Golden Spikes Award as the top player in college baseball.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-hander threw 10 complete games last season, including his last nine in a row. In three seasons, he struck out 460, second only to Tim Lincecum’s 491 for Washington from 2004 through 2006.
Bauer will report to Class A Visalia on Tuesday.
