Lake Merwin — Children with special needs flocked to the wheelchair-accessible trout hatchery at Lake Merwin on July 16 for Merwin Special Kids’ Day.

With help from parents and volunteers, they fished, cleaned and packaged their catches. Each kid was able to take home five fish — plus a T-shirt. There was also barbecue, storytelling and a casting contest.

It was sponsored by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Pacific Power and GoPAW (the Go Play Outside Alliance of Washington).
