PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. (AP) — An Olympic Peninsula video store is taking a different approach to promoting the last Harry Potter film — it’s brewed up a version of the main character’s favorite drink, butter beer.
The Potter books don’t give a recipe for the beverage or describe it thoroughly, but the Peninsula Daily News reports that Vasu Video in Port Townsend created its own concoction involving caramel, cream and lots of butter. The sauce can be mixed with coffee or milk and served hot or cold.
Owner Liam Cannon says the store spent a few weeks perfecting the nonalcoholic recipe and began serving it a week before the premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.”
In the books, the drinking of one’s first butter beer is a rite of passage. In the real world, a 12-ounce cup goes for $3.67.
