Letter: Not many flags raised in memoriam

The Columbian
Published: May 31, 2011, 5:00pm

It disappointed me as I walked my Lab through our housing development in the Salmon Creek area this Memorial Day weekend. Of the 100 properties, there were only four American flags displayed to remember the fallen soldiers who have scarified their lives to protect our freedom and security at home and our way of life. This is for all the soldiers in all the wars that this country has been involved in. It seems to me that all the important holidays are, for most Americans, just to do what? Just another day off? Sad.
