NEW YORK (AP) — Olympic bronze medalist Deena Kastor will return to long-distance racing next week, four months after the birth of her first child.
The American marathon record-holder will run the NYRR New York Mini 10K on June 11. Her daughter, Piper Bloom, was born in February. Kastor won bronze in the marathon at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
The 38-year-old Kastor last competed at the London Marathon in April 2010. She has been training for 212 months.
The field includes 10,000-meter world champion Linet Masai and 2010 New York City Marathon champion Edna Kiplagat of Kenya and reigning World Marathon Majors champion Liliya Shobukhova of Russia.
