PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon will begin exporting fresh blueberries to South Korea this summer, making it the first U.S. state permitted to do so.
The Oregonian newspaper reports that after decades of talks, negotiators finally convinced Korean officials that Oregon’s berries can be shipped free of pests and diseases. Shipments will begin July 1 and could amount to between 200,000 and 500,000 pounds the first year.

Oregon got word last week that South Korean officials had decided to allow imports of blueberries produced in accordance with Korean technical requirements. Other states have not gained permission.
