Vancouver Public Schools wants to add a 26,271-square-foot maintenance and wash-down building to its property at 6014 N.W. Fruit Valley Road.

The school district has proposed an additional metal building in the southeast corner of the property, as well as adequate parking for up to 190 employee and visitor cars and other vehicles. The site will house approximately 35 full-time maintenance staff, and twice as many during summer months.

The property is 8.9 acres and zoned light industrial. There is an existing 7,000-square-foot grounds shop on the northeast corner of the site.

Access will be via a new gate on 61st Street to the north; the Fruit Valley Road entrance to the property will be closed.

No public hearing is required. The school district hopes to put the project out to bid this summer and finish building late this year or early in 2012.

A fueling station also is planned for a future phase of development at the site.
