TOKYO (AP) — Two-time world champion Kohei Uchimura won the NHK Cup on Sunday to qualify for this year’s gymnastics world championships in October.

Uchimura finished with 278.750 points to win the men’s all-around competition for his third straight NHK Cup title.

Uchimura won the all-around gold medal at the world championships in London in 2009 and defended his title last year in Rotterdam.

Koko Tsurumi won the women’s event with 219.650 points to secure her place in the world championships which will be held at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium from Oct. 7-16.

The International Gymnastics Federation last month decided to keep the worlds in Tokyo despite earlier concerns about high radiation levels following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
