Local bands win Rose Festival honors

Festival association clarifies inaccurate results sent Saturday

Bands from Heritage High School and Battle Ground High School earned first-place awards in their divisions in Saturday’s Grand Floral Parade in Portland.

Rose Festival officials said Monday they sent out incorrect results, which were published in Sunday’s Columbian.

Heritage finished first in the category of out-of-state bands with 100 or more musicians.

Battle Ground finished first in the category of out-of-state bands with 99 or fewer musicians. Columbia River High was second in that category and Prairie High School finished third.

As reported, Evergreen High School won the sweepstakes award given to the best band in the parade.

Also as reported, the Battle Ground Community Rose Float won the Rose Society Award for best use of roses.
