MOUNT ANGEL, Ore. (AP) -- A traffic stop in the small Oregon town of Mount Angel ended in a police shooting.
The Marion County sheriff's office said the driver of a pickup truck was wounded Wednesday afternoon after he ran from police following a short chase that ended in a crash in a field.
The man was identified as 38-year-old Lloyd Howard Schafer of Salem.
Schafer was flown to Oregon Heath & Science University Hospital in Portland, suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies said his wounds were not believed to be life-threatening.
Mount Angel police officers Steven McDonough (mik-DUN-uff) and Jeff Charpilloz (shahr-PILL-oh) have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is routine during an investigation of a shooting.
A passenger in the truck was not injured.
