ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — A Marine Corps reservist is in custody after authorities say they found him in the middle of the night near the Pentagon with a backpack containing suspicious items.

Yonathan Welaku, of Alexandria, Va., was discovered after 1 a.m. Friday inside Arlington National Cemetery, hours after it had closed.

A law enforcement official says he may have had a quantity of ammonium nitrate, which can be used in explosives in the correct concentration. The FBI says the items were non-explosive, but are being tested.

Bomb-sniffing dogs went through Welaku’s home on Friday.

The FBI says Welaku joined the Marine Corps Reserves in September 2007 and is currently listed as a lance corporal.
