ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves have placed right-hander Tommy Hanson on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder.

The Braves recalled right-hander Randall Delgado from Double-A Mississippi to start in Hanson’s place Friday night against the Texas Rangers. The 21-year-old Delgado will be making his first appearance in the major leagues.

Hanson says he had an MRI on Friday which showed inflammation but no structural damage. He says he has had discomfort in the shoulder, mostly between starts.

Atlanta also optioned infielder Brandon Hicks to Triple-A Gwinnett and recalled right-hander Jairo Asencio from Gwinnett.

Third baseman Chipper Jones is not starting after leaving Thursday night’s game against the New York Mets with a strained adductor muscle in his right leg.
