SEATTLE (AP) — A man who punched a smaller, developmentally disabled man from behind as they both got off a Seattle bus has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

The Seattle Times says Raymel J. Curry was sentenced Friday in King County Superior Court for his second-degree assault conviction.

The Sept. 17 attack was captured on the bus’ surveillance video. The victim suffered a broken jaw and deep head cuts. Charging papers say he crashed head-first on a window ledge, then fell to the sidewalk.

Before the attack, Curry reportedly yelled threats and profanity, some of it directed at the victim.

At sentencing, The Times says the victim’s sister described her brother’s life as changed forever by the assault. She says he now fears the bus and no longer leaves his home.
