COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — The late Bob Feller is not forgotten in Cooperstown.

Dmitri Young was given the inaugural Bob Feller Player of the Game Award at the Hall of Fame Classic. He hit a three-run homer in the third annual old-timers’ game Sunday and was the most valuable player.

Feller’s wife, Anne, made the trip from the Cleveland area and called it an honor.

Major league baseball stopped participating in the annual Hall of Fame Game at Doubleday Field three years ago. This one-stoplight village then found a hero in Feller. Feller was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1962 and didn’t want to see a tradition die after nearly seven decades.
