History is a mystery to some people, a fantasy to others. The Columbia River Crossing reminds me of the cries of near hysteria when Seattle leaders decided to build the Space Needle. Some people thought it would fall over in a brisk Puget Sound wind, others if an earthquake occurred.
A local megalomaniac in east Vancouver paints virtually every politician in the area with falsely saying he/she favors tolls. This is in spite of most of these victims never saying such things. Truth is a commodity lost in much of the “deniers” of CRC.
Most Monday evenings you’ll find me watching the Vancouver City Council meeting where the same cast of characters, and believe me they are characters, come and perform and say the same thing each week. I turn off the sound and watch who is talking and can virtually mouth word for word what is going to be said. They seem to have a motto, “It is easier to destroy than to create” and “Let’s demonize the other side rather than have a dialogue.”
