CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — In the spirit of John and Yoko, Olympic speedskater Kristina Groves is inviting Calgary’s civic leaders to join her in bed.
She is holding a “bed-in for sustainability.” She hopes the intimate setting will generate ideas to make a more environmentally sound city.
Groves has long championed green causes. Now the 34-year-old skater from Ottawa is borrowing tactics John Lennon and Yoko Ono used in 1969 to protest the Vietnam War.
Groves will spend Friday in her pajamas on a bed in the front window of Obasan Boutique in downtown Calgary. She’ll report her findings to Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi.
Groves won a total of four medals at the 2006 and 2010 Olympics. She also has 18 world championship medals.
