SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Police have sent divers into San Francisco Bay to search for evidence in the slaying of a 20-year-old man from Olympia, Wash. whose body was found in the water.

The man was identified on Wednesday as Dennis Knowlton. San Francisco police say Knowlton was stabbed with some sort of a sharp instrument.

A passerby spotted his body a day earlier in jeans and a white tank top in the waters near Marina Green. A trail of blood led to a nearby parking lot.

Police spokesman Albie Esparza told the San Francisco Chronicle the blood was determined to be Knowlton’s.

Police sent a dive team out on Wednesday morning to search for possible evidence in the area where Knowlton was spotted.

A man who answered the phone at Knowlton’s parents’ home in Olympia declined to comment.
