Marathon great Loroupe gets IOC women’s award

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Two-time New York Marathon winner Tegla Loroupe has received the IOC’s women and sport global award on Olympic Day.

Loroupe was honored at the International Olympic Committee headquarters for her peace foundation work in Kenya. She won the New York races in 1994-95 and held the women’s world-best time for three years.

IOC President Jacques Rogge also presented awards to five continental winners for their efforts encouraging women to participate as athletes, coaches, administrators and media.

Nadouvi Lawson Body received the African honor for becoming the Togolese basketball federation’s first female president and a national Olympic body vice president.
