SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Gov. John Kitzhaber’s effort to transform Oregon’s low-income health care plan is moving through the Legislature.
The measure is expected to get a vote in the budget committee on Thursday, a final step before votes in the full House and Senate.
Health care has been one of the state’s most rapidly rising expenses. Kitzhaber hopes he can save over $200 million dollars and provide better health care by changing the Oregon Health Plan from a fee-for-service model to one that rewards care providers for keeping their patients healthy.
The bill is one of the last major obstacles lawmakers face before going home for the year.
