I have been a smoker for 40 years. I don’t want to be, but I am. Still. I have tried to quit more times than I’d like to admit. I have come to the realization that I probably won’t until cigarettes are not available in almost every store on almost every street corner. They’re just too available.
I see that public health officials and some local governments, in all their wisdom, may consider banning the new electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) used by adults in public places. The reason? They believe e-cigarettes contain harmful chemicals and carcinogens. Really? Isn’t that the problem with tobacco cigarettes?
And now the feds, in all their wisdom, seem to think that putting graphic pictures of health problems caused by smoking on the packages will help people to quit. Really? How many smokers are not aware of the health risks these days? This will only raise the price, I’m sure.
I, with my wisdom and experience, have a suggestion: Just stop selling them. This is not rocket science, people. The problem with my solution? I don’t have billions of dollars to grease the palms of the lawmakers in this great country of ours.
