What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

We would like to salute amateur golfer Patrick Cantlay.

This 19-year-old — who competes collegiately at UCLA — shot a 60 on Friday at the Travelers Championship to break the PGA Tour record for an amateur, and went on to finish tied for 24th at 11 under after weekend rounds of 72 and 70.

“I just learned what it’s like to have a week on the PGA Tour, to make the cut and to compete with all the guys,” said Cantlay, the low amateur at Congressional last week. “This was just my second go-around, and it was a lot of fun. The ovations are special every time.”

What we at Talking Points like about this kid is that he said on Friday — after his amazing second round score that had him in the lead by four strokes — is his desire to “stay amateur until I finish college.”

This photo from the Women’s World Cup in Germany is almost a Talking Point without any explanation. But we’ll give you three guesses.

This is a picture of:

A) One of the performers from an opening ceremony.

B) A fan of the German team.

C) Lady Gaga taking her seat in the stadium.

ANSWER: B
