RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) — Explosives will be used to bring down chimneys, a water tower and other tall structures Friday in cleanup work at the Hanford nuclear reservation.
The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce reports that $1.6 million in federal stimulus money is paying for the demolition by Energy Department contractor CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Co.
The demolition will take down two 250-foot chimneys, two 90-foot air filter bag houses, a 140-foot water tower and a coal silo.
