Police in Hillsboro, Ore., are investigating an apparent murder-suicide in which they say a 54-year-old man fatally shot his 6-year-old son and then killed himself. The bodies were found Tuesday afternoon in a field behind a church.

Lt. Michael Rouches says no motive was immediately apparent and the deaths have no connection to the church.

He says no names will be released until relatives are notified.

Hillsboro police and Washington County sheriff’s officers are investigating.
