SEATTLE (AP) — The Army has completed its administrative investigation into a troubled, Washington-based Stryker brigade, but it’s keeping the findings secret for now.
The investigation was conducted by a brigadier general after a dozen soldiers from the brigade were accused of crimes ranging from hashish smoking to slaughtering Afghan civilians. The crimes raised questions about whether there had been a breakdown in leadership during the troops’ deployment.
Joint Base Lewis-McChord spokeswoman Maj. Kathleen Turner said Thursday that results have been sent to defense attorneys for the accused soldiers, but aren’t being released publicly to protect the integrity of the court-martial process.
Five soldiers await trial on charges they deliberately killed three Afghan civilians. Five others have been convicted of lesser crimes, including drug use, stabbing a corpse and beating up a witness in a drug investigation, and two more face related charges.
