Bendus among finalists for hockey’s player of year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Mercyhurst forward Vicki Bendus is among the 10 finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, given annually to the top player in major women’s college hockey.

The senior from Wasaga Beach, Ontario, captured the award in 2010 and attempts to become the first back-to-back winner since the award’s inception in 1998. Harvard’s Jennifer Botterill won in 2001 and ’03.

Bendus has seven goals and 17 assists this season.

Other finalists are Meghan Agosta (Mercyhurst) Meghan Duggan (Wisconsin) Laura Fortino (Cornell), Haley Irwin (Minnesota-Duluth), Rebecca Johnston (Cornell), Hilary Knight (Wisconsin), Noora Raty (Minnesota), Molly Schaus (Boston College) and Kelli Stack (Boston College).

The award will be presented March 19.
