SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A suspected car thief with a history of auto theft managed to elude police for a short while — before he asked an undercover officer for a ride.
The Salem Statesman Journal reports that 31-year-old Lloyd Wright was arrested and charged on Thursday with possession of a stolen vehicle, among other charges.
Police say Wright was seen by an officer stepping into a car that had been reported stolen. Police then lost him in traffic, and the car was reported found minutes later at an apartment complex.
Wright then knocked on the window of a car driven by an undercover officer parked near the Willamette River and asked for a ride. After his arrest, he was taken to the Marion County Jail.
