A man wanted for car theft unwittingly asked an undercover cop for a ride, but ended up getting transported to the last place he wanted to go.

Salem, Ore. police were looking for Lloyd W. Wright, 31, who had been spotted behind the wheel of a 1998 Acura Integra that had been reported stolen. The Acura was parked near a city park when officers spotted it, and watched a man climb in and drive away. Before they could stop him, however, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and ran away down some railroad tracks.

About 30 minutes later Wright walked up to an undercover police office who was parked in the area looking for him. Wright then asked the cop for a ride.

“His request was granted, after being handcuffed, when he was transported to the police station by a marked patrol vehicle,” according to a police news release.

Wright has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, and criminal trespass. He was subsequently lodged at the Marion County Correctional Facility.
