Clark County Fire District 6 is prepared to offer a class on emergency preparedness following the devastating earthquake that struck Japan Thursday, but needs at least 15 participants to commit before moving forward.
Topics in the course include disaster medicine, light search and rescue, psychological first aid, fire safety, disaster fire suppression, utility shutoff and patient triage.
“Nobody is safe from the effects of a devastating earthquake or natural disaster. This should serve as a reminder of the importance of being prepared.” Dawn Johnson, a District 6 spokeswoman, said in a news release announcing the class.
The release warns that first responders will not be able to meet all of the demands for emergency care brought on by a large-scale disaster. Community Emergency Response Team training is meant to teach individuals how to sustain themselves, their families and neighbors until fire and medical services can arrive.
